Toxic Mold Research From U.S. Chamber

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce published two papers regarding the law and science of toxic mold lawsuits, questioning the adequacy of the science behind much of the litigation in The Growing Hazard of Mold Litigation. (More ... )

Cliff Hutchinson and Robert Powell in “Mold Litigation: How Hysteria and Junk Science Built a Cottage Industry.”
From the executive summary:
"Hutchinson and Powell lay out the development of mold litigation, including some significant cases with large verdicts * * * The authors examine mold litigation through the Daubert microscope and argue that the serious health claims that pervade mold litigation * * * cannot withstand scrutiny under the “reliable science” standard of Daubert."

Bryan D. Hardin, Ph.D., Andrew Saxon, M.D., Coreen Robbins, Ph.D., CIH, and Bruce J. Kelman, Ph.D., DABT “A Scientific View of the Health Effects of Mold,”
From the executive summary:
"The paper examines in depth each type of health complaint associated with mold and offers an extensive survey of the scientific literature on the topic. It determines that mold can cause allergies for those who are “atopic” or prone to allergic reactions. * * * The paper concludes that infections caused by mold are rare, except for those individuals who are “immune-compromised.” Finally, it asserts that “there is no sound scientific evidence that mold causes ‘toxicity’ in doses found in home environments.”

While mold may not itself cause health problems in all people, it can be a sysmptom of a moisture problem which may produce its own ill health effects.

I don't know about all this toxic mold stuff.

I was scared at first reading all the materials on that Canadian tenant rights site's apartment health page I have added as a link but it seems like a somewhat radical group so maybe it is overblown. But some of the articles are pretty convincing.
